Mike Davis and the New Wonders

Eloquent trumpet prodigy Mike Davis (Wall Street Journal) has avoice beyond his years on his instrument. His playing is imbued withthe sounds of prohibition-era speakeasies, Hoovervilles of thedepression, and glittering jazz palaces of the swing era, creating atimeless cocktail of American music. A graduate of the ManhattanSchool of Music, Mike began his trumpet instruction at age nine withJerry Oram in Seattle and went on to study with Laurie Frink duringhis undergraduate studies.

Both encouraged his interest in early jazzstyles, which led to his beginning to work professionally in New YorkCity during his college years. He now appears regularly around NewYork City as the leader of the New Wonders and with Vince GiordanosNighthawks, David Ostwalds Louis Armstrong Eternity Band, DandyWellington and his band, Glenn Crytzer, Terry Waldo, Dan Levinson,and many other traditional jazz and swing bands. Mike is a member ofthe Lovestruck Balladeers and has contributed compositions andarrangements to the group, as well as numerous arrangements forstudio projects with Turtle Bay Records, including with Megg Farrell,Ricky Alexander, Terry Waldo, Hannah Gill, and the New Wonders.

Exquisite attention to musical detail and the bands deep passion forthe original recordings is evident in each performance. Named for themodel of cornet played by the enigmatic genius Bix Beiderbecke, theNew Wonders craft each song as if it were a 78 rpm record, and theresult has been praised by Downbeat Magazine and the New YorkTimes. The New Wonders perform regularly around New York city,chasing the echoes of bootleg liquor and dancing feet.
