Logan Mize

Logan Mize was born and raised in the small farm town of Clearwater, Kansas where his entire family owns and operates the town's only grocery store, Mize's Thriftway. Logan was a standout athlete at Clearwater High School where he won all-state honors as a football player, a wrestler, and as a sprinter. Although Logan started learning the piano at the age of 8 and continued lessons well into his teens, music was never considered as anything more than a warm-up method for the friday night football game. Logan will often joke, however, that Clearwater was probably the only school with a warm up tape playing Montgomery Gentry's "My Town", and Merle Haggard's "Fightin Side of Me". After going on to play college football at Southern Illinois University, Logan picked up the guitar and started writing songs in his spare time. The summer before his Junior year at SIU he made a 4 song acoustic CD of some of the songs he had written to pass out to all his friends. The CD was a huge hit in his hometown, and all over the SIU Campus where you could drive to any given house party on a saturday night and hear Logan's voice and guitar over the stereo accompanied by a few hundred drunk college kids singing at the top of their lungs along to every word. At that point football practice and school unfortunately began to take a backseat to the new found music career. With trips to Nashville becoming frequent Logan made the decision midway through his Junior year to leave school and pursue music full time in Nashville, TN. At the end of his first year in Nashville after working numerous odd jobs as a truck driver, bouncer at Coyote Ugly, a furniture delivery man, and a DJ on a party bus amongst various other odd jobs, Logan landed a publishing deal with, Hit Songwriter, Brett Jones at Wyoming Sky Music. He then began writing and performing full time having the opportunity to open shows for major country acts including Pat Green and Merle Haggard. In his first year he has penned the song "Mexicoma" which will be a single on Bucky Covingtons upcoming album. Logan also had the opportunity to play his distant cousin's, and Pioneer of "The Bakersfield Sound" Billy Mize's 80th birthday party in Bakersfield, California where he performed one of Billy's hits "Who Will Buy The Wine" for the birthday audience including Billy himself amongst various other Bakersfield Legends. Three years into his Nashville arrival, Logan Mize is already establishing himself as a writer and as an artist. His live shows are packed with high energy, infectious melodies, and organic lyrics that are sure to keep audiences coming back for more. You can be sure to hear alot more from Logan in the near future. . User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.

About This Event

LOGAN MIZEShe calls me back, back to her heartlandI got a bigger dream to chase back homeA lot has happened in the nearly three years since Logan Mize released his last full-length studio album Welcome to Prairieville. Mize made his Grand Ole Opry debut in April 2022 and was invited back to play the Opry again that December. Hes released multiple extended play projects including Prairie Tapes Vol 1 recorded and produced entirely at his studio in Andale, KS and a duet project with his wife Jill Martin (also a Kansas-native singer-songwriter) dubbed The Mizes.

Hes given listeners a Christmas record and multiple collaborations with artists such as Jessie James Decker, Sam Grow, Adam Hambrick and Grace Leer. In addition, Mize has crisscrossed the country on headlining tours and shared a stage with country legends from Eric Church to Jamey Johnson to Sawyer Brown. Its been a busy three years.

Mizes sixth full-length studio album Her Heartland was driven by several singles released in the last year. These singles anchor a record thats an evolutionary step in blending country and heartland rock. The songs weve recorded and released over the past year felt cohesive like they should be on an album.

The title track Her Heartland opens the record with a baritone guitar groove and an instant homage to the small-town Kansas life that shaped Mizes childhood and career: Shes the dust trails, on that one road out of town. In my opinion this is the most melodically pleasing album Ive ever released. Mize pushed himself vocally on this record more than most of his releases; hes (half)jokingly acknowledged that some of the tracks are exceptionally difficult to sing live.

All that work in the studio rewards listeners with powerful tracks that present authentic vignettes of Mize as a person and artist. I think this is the first record I can listen to my vocal all the way through and not hear a moment I regret. Whether its a harsh tone, wishing I had picked a different key or comped another take.

I like the vocal all the way through on this one, said Mize. As far as careers for an independent artist go, Mize has outlasted and outworked the status quo. Her Heartland is a record that offers a genuinely unique sound that will appeal to brand-new listeners and decade-long fans alike.
