Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation.

About JOHN COLTRANE: An American jazz saxophonist, bandleader and composer. He is among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th century music. Born and raised in North Carolina, after graduating from high school Coltrane moved to Philadelphia, where he studied music.
Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes and was one of the players at the forefront of free jazz. About SALSA MEETS JAZZ BAND: A unique Los Angeles band created for the pleasure of jazz, latin jazz and salsa music fans. Salsa Meets Jazz was a famous now legendary music series which took place at the Village Gate in New York during the 1980s.
